About
Years ago, Clara, aka COBRAH, for the first time squeezed herself into a black latex catsuit. On top of it she added a corset, cinched tight. Really tight.
In this moment, she says, she’d “never been so thrilled about anything. It was like falling in love.”
It wasn’t just about the thrill of skintight fetish wear. It was that in this moment, Clara fully transformed into COBRAH, the experimental electronic artist that’s since become a globally celebrated vocalist, producer, fashion iconoclast and cultural boundary-pusher whose sleek, playful, often subversive views of sexuality and female power emanate from every note, every vocal and every clothing stich.
Having already clocked global hits including the propulsive, tongue in cheek “GOOD PUSS” -- which has more than 25 million streams and was nominated for a Swedish Grammy -- and featuring in the hypnotic 2022 club smash “MAMI,” COBRAH is now ready to unleash her third EP, Succubus, a seven-track collection coming this October.
The songs present seven different facets of the carnal, lethal succubus -- a female supernatural entity that appears to sleeping men and sexually forces herself upon them. On “Manic” COBRAH declares “I’m not dramatic I just get a little manic,” revealing a slightly unhinged but searingly powerful force depicted in cover art where she portrays an ogre in a shag dress and long black wig, her claws tipped towards the sky. “Bad Position” balances buzzy, slightly ominous production with what COBRAH calls “very, very personal” lyrics about trying to hold on to a relationship. “Female Energy” celebrates the power of not just being sexy, but also strong as hell, with a video populated with female bodybuilders demonstrating that women can be both.
Altogether, the EP depicts the strength, sexuality, aggression, depth and desire of the succubus, and of COBRAH too. Surely, listeners will be able to relate.
